Welcome!
Welcome to the Rummage Rescuers family of shoppers, donators and volunteers.
Rummage Rescuers is a community interest company based in Blackburn, Lancashire, supporting local people with furniture, homeware, clothing baby items and essentials at affordable prices.
Rummage Rescuers founder, Liz Crook, started the community-led organisation in 2015 to address the needs of Blackburn with Darwen residents. The first shop was in the bustling and thriving community of Mill Hill. A second community shop whuich has a vintage, Wedding, Occasion and designer clothing floor (Glitz 'n' Glam) is in the heart of Blackburn town centre, opposite the Town Hall.
Both community shops are hubs for local people with a treasure trove of pre-loved clothing, shoes, small household items and accessories. The shops are stocked with items donated by generous people and local organisations. Enjoying shopping for quality goods is important for people who are on a tight budget.
There are two warehouses open to the public. The furniture warehouse on Harrison Street stocks large items and homeware donations. The warehouse on Canterbury Street is for clothing, bedding, baby goods and toys. A collection and delivery van service is available for a small fee.
Rummage Rescuers work closely with statutory and private organisations to support people in need and particularly people moving from temporary to permanent accommodation.
Pound Pending Scheme
This is an opportunity to leave a Pound Pending for those in need. All Pound Pending funds are open to anyone who needs to buy goods from the Rummage Rescuers community shop but is struggling to afford the essentials. For example, school uniforms are freely available at all times.
Pound Pending supports those in need i.e. the homeless, flood victims etc. It allows Rummage rescuers to support people with coats, scarves, gloves, jumpers and other items of homeware when it's genuinely needed.
Throughout the winter, we witness homeless folk who are freezing cold. They call in to Canterbury Street warehouse to ask for help. They access the Rummage Rescuers Community Pound Pending scheme. Just £5 from the pound pending funds provides a full bag warm clothes. They leave dressed for the cold, warm, happy and grateful.
It takes just £1 to make a difference. To donate £1 or more, or to set up a recurring monthly payment, please click here.
Rummage Rescuers Chief Executive Officer Liz Crook says: “It is a privilege to actually see the scheme work. Thank you so much to all the kind and amazing people who’ve donated.” If you’re in need, all you need to do is visit one of the Rummage Rescuers community shops or warehouses and ask for goods via Pound Pending. We can’t do this without generous support and it costs just £1.
