Leading the Charge: Electric Vehicle Charge points for your community
Chamber Low Carbon are holding online events, we are delighted to be joined by Daniel and Ady from Charge my street.
Daniel Heery: (Company Secretary) has 20 years’ experience of funding and delivering projects focused on communities. He set up the award winning Cybermoor social enterprise in Cumbria and has worked on community-owned infrastructure projects, focused on broadband. His experience of trying to get a chargepoint installed on his street in Lancaster gave him the idea to use community shares to bring local people together for a co-operative solution. He is passionate about using community assets to find solutions to environmental problems.
Ady Powell: Manages the SOSCI project for Charge My Street. His role involves finding sites, managing the delivery partners and setting up site owner contracts. He has a background in delivering projects on autonomous vehicles and has been a volunteer on village hall committees and a local foodbank.
The team from Lancaster community benefit society Charge My Street will be speaking all about their plans to increase electric vehicle uptake in the North West.
Charge My Street was set up to do just that. Switching to an EV is now a real and attractive prospect for those with the space to charge it. But for those living in flats or in terraced housing, it gets a lot more complicated. Charge My Street installs and maintains publicly accessible EV chargepoints for anyone to use in an effort to encourage more people to make the switch. And after a hugely successful share offer raised £130,000, as well as receiving government funding, the only thing left to do is find the sites to host the chargepoints themselves.
Daniel and Ady from Charge My Street will go through the technology involved with charging an EV, how Charge My Street operates and the practicalities of being a host site. They’ll speak on the different options available to a host, depending on their situation - proximity of housing, electricity supply etc. They’ll cover everything a business might need to decide whether being a host site is for you!
