Breathe Therapies is looking for a dynamicRMN that has a strong interest in Eating Disorders and Mental Health. There is opportunity for either part-time, full-time or job share. The successful candidate will have previous experience working with Eating Disorders.

Breathe Therapies is a not-for-profit organisation and the treatment arm of the charity, Support and Education for Eating Disorders.

At Breathe, we aim to ensure that anyone in Preston and the North West who are experiencing an Eating DisorderObesityMental Health or Wellbeing issues can have access to the most appropriate help and effective treatment when they need it.

Job Title: Registered Mental health Nurse (RMN) specialist in eating disorders

Hours: 40 hours between 10am – 6pm

Location:Quayside House, Navigation Way off Chain Caul Way, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, Lancashire, PR2 2YP

Reporting to: Clinical Director


Job Purpose:

To lead and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing support to enable individuals to help themselves in their recovery from their eating disorder, mental health, obesity, or wellbeing presentations.

To provide clinical care to the clients, according to the treatment plans.

This will involve care co-ordinating, planning, implementing, assessing, and evaluating treatment using evidence-based practice. Risk assessment and management are fundamental to this role. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team is a key feature of the role, as well as utilising a client-centred bio-psycho-social needs led approach, and involving families in planning, communication and implementation of care.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Managerial:

·Conntribute to the achievement and delivery of Breathe Therapies aims and objectives.

·Assist in the management and development of the Breathe Therapies’ Clinical team and services.

·Manage own workload effectively and that of the clinical team.

·Oversee Clinical Compliance and Governance and liaise with other HODS as required.

·Work closely with the Clinical Co-Ordinator to ensure supervision and management clinical, clinical admin and smooth running of the clinic.

Clinical:

· Work within the NICE guidelines for the treatment of eating disorders, mental health and obesity.

·Follow the requirements of the Mental Health Act and Children Act.

·Assessment and triage of eating disorders, mental illness, obesity and wellbeing issues in individuals.

·Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their carers.

·Assist in the development, co-facilitation and staffing of therapeutic groups and 1:1s.

·Maintain appropriate, supportive and respectful relationships with carers, family members and colleagues.

·Assess, monitor and manage Clinical Riskin and for clients and clinical areas.

·To evaluate the clients physical state, including high blood pressure weight and height. Accurately calculate clients’ body mass index (BMI) to establish physical state/risk and assist in assessing the need for impatient admission.

·To follow CPA policy and procedure, act as CPA care co-ordinator as required.

· To effectively manage and take responsibility for a caseload of complex clients within the specialist area of eating disorders, mental health, obesity and wellbeing.

·To actively participate in regular supervision.

·Lead and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings and liaise with internal and external MDT’s e.g., Paediatricians, GP, Psychiatrist.

·Manage and deliver the implementation of therapeutic meal provision.

·Be responsible for the safe usage and storage and administration of clinical equipment e.g., Recovery Record, First Aid equipment.

·Demonstrate awareness of safeguarding principles in all dealings with individuals and their families.

Professional:

·Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act, the Children Act, Safeguarding legislation, the NMC and Breathe Therapies Policy.

·Operate at own level of professional competency.

·Maintain professional boundaries.

·Operate within NMC guidelines.

·Maintain and monitor professional nursing conduct ensuring that appropriate standards are met.

·Ensure that senior nursing staff are informed of all professional and clinical issues.

Educational:

·To complete and maintain all Educare Units.

·Undertake the induction, mentorship and preceptorship of staff new to the service in conjunction with the rest of the nursing team.

·Participate in Breathe Therapies appraisal process. Identify and undertake own and others mandatory, professional and personal development and training needs.

·Participate in regular clinical supervision, ensuring evidence-based practice.

Organisational:

·Read and comply with all relevant Breathe Therapies and statuary policies and procedures.

·Contribute to Breathe Therapies Clinical Governance arrangements and quality agenda.

Communication:

·Keep adequate and timely written records which comply with Breathe Therapies and NMC guidelines.

·Ensure good practice in terms of updating and informing all members of the MDT and appropriate others about current nursing care plans and the physical and psychological process of the patients.

·Communicate with patients and their carers in line with Breathe Therapies and NMC guidelines on confidentiality.

Information Technology/Resources

·To be competent in basic IT skills.

·To identify any training needs and access any relevant training as required.

·To utilize current IT resources in order to develop and improve interventions used within the service.

Financial and Physical Resources

·To be responsible for the handling of petty cash, ensuring all documentation is correctly processed.

·To act as part signatory of reimbursement of petty cash.

·To take an active in maintaining stock levels and equipment.

Environmental Responsibilities

As a member of staff, you have:

·Legal duties and responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation, plus a general duty to work safely and not to put others at risk i.e., colleagues, service users, visitors, as a result of any activity or omission at work.

·To conduct health and safety audits as and when required.

·To report any health and safety concerns to your line manager or to the appropriate authority, and to ensure that repairs are carried out.

·To ensure that any problems with the fabric of the building are reported to the line manager and maintenance department.

·To conduct risk assessments as appropriate due to concerns regarding health and safety.

·Your attention is drawn to the confidential nature of information collected within Breathe Therapies. The unauthorised use or disclosure of patient or other personal information is regarded as gross misconduct and will be subject to Breathe Therapies’ Disciplinary Procedure in the case of computerised information could result in a prosecution for an offence or action for civil damages under the Data Protection Act 1998.

This is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties which fall within the grade of the job in discussion with the Clinical Director.

This job description will be reviewed on a regular basis in light of changing service requirements and any such changes will be discussed with the post holder.

The post holder is expected to comply with all of Breathe Therapies policies and procedures.
